Injunctive Relief
A court order requiring a party to do or refrain from doing a specific act.
Injunctive relief is an equitable remedy used to prevent ongoing or imminent harm. Temporary restraining orders provide immediate short-term relief, preliminary injunctions last during litigation, and permanent injunctions are final remedies.
To obtain injunctive relief, the requesting party typically must show irreparable harm, likelihood of success on the merits, and that the balance of hardships favors the injunction.
Example
A court issues an injunction preventing a former employee from sharing trade secrets with a competitor, pending trial.
